An Extraordinary Turn of Event
The anti-dystopian novel, An Extraordinary Turn of Events tells the story of Geronimo Vang, who dies of an overdose, is revived, and without memory or identity comes to NYC and reinvents himself. He finds success as a writer and he meets a Vietnamese woman, Minh Vang, who is also a writer and shares his sense of being an outsider. They fall passionately in love and marry. Things go wonderfully in their careers and their marriage- and also with the world at large.
A mysterious virus has taken out a small percentage of the white male population. Queer, non hetero-normative, women and people of color fill the power vacuum and seemingly overnight the ills that plague society; climate crisis, economic inequality and other systemic problems are remedied. And then a young woman, claiming to be Geronimo’s daughter, shows up with a warning that events from his past life could put their idyllic life in jeopardy.
